Have your say on draft Animal Care and Protection Bill and supporting regulations

Vetboard Victoria encourages you to provide feedback via the Engage Victoria website on the draft Animal Care and Protection Bill released by the Victorian Government on 15 December 2023.

The draft Bill follows a series of consultations held with the veterinary profession in Victoria and the public. If the Bill is passed by the Victorian Parliament to become an Act, the new Animal Care and Protection Act would replace the current Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 (the POCTA Act).

The new Act would not come into force for at least 2 years to enable development of supporting regulations setting out requirements for specific species and activities involving animals.

This is the Victorian government's first consultation on the regulations, seeking feedback on priorities and their development.
